GAP1 Workshop 2 Norwich, UK, May 5th-8 2009


The purpose of the GAP1 workshop is for the project to share and take forward the experience of developing participatory research case-studies during GAP1.
All Case studies, stakeholders and participating institutions are represented.
The expected outcomes of the workshop were:
1. A Code of Conduct for initiating cooperative research involving fisheries stakeholders and scientists.
2. Plans for implementing cooperative research projects developed during the GAP project
Subjects of research proposals
• Denmark: Herring fishery in IIIa and adjacent areas
• Estonia: BaltFishPlan: „Mapping the Baltic fisheries in support of marine spatial planning“
• France/ Spain: Conservation and management issues related to FADs utilized by the European tropical tuna fishery.
• Germany: Aspects of the inshore and Wadden Sea brown shrimp fishery, with a focus on the effects of climate change.
• Italy: Spatio-temporal distribution of fishing effort and biological resources in the Northern Adriatic Sea: towards the identification of fish habitats and management proposals in the framework of a participatory approach
• Latvia: Integration of fisherman knowledge into stock assessment of the eastern Baltic cod: perception of relative stock abundance, discarding and IUU
• Malta: Enhancing the scientific knowledge base underpinning management decisions on demersal resources in the Maltese FMZ aiming to improve acceptance of future management plans by fishers.
• Norway: Developing a fisheries-based resource monitoring system: The case of Norwegian coastal cod
• Spain: Case study red shrimp
• Sweden: Development of selective fisheries on whitefish in Lake Vättern
• UK: Case study crab fishery
